Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below the answers to the questions I get asked most often.

Can Beginners join the classes straight away?

Yes! The classes are quite gentle compared to many styles of yoga and beginners are always welcome. Sign up for my newsletters and look out for occasional courses and workshops aimed at beginners too.

Where are public classes held?

Weekly face to face, in-person classes are currently held in Fair Oak and Horton Heath (perhaps also in Eastleigh again at a later date). Information about the different locations can be found on the Venues and Dates page.

How much do classes cost?

Pricing & Payment options for regular classes can be found on the Class Details page and are also listed for all classes on the schedule of the Bookings page. For every weekly class booked, you will also receive a video link to a recording of that week's lesson so you can repeat the class again or catch up if you missed your class for some reason.

Longer sessions, workshops and yoga retreats are all priced individually and information can be found on the Workshops page. Class Pass credits cannot be used against these.

When are the classes and how long are they?

Most weekly sessions are all one hour long (unless otherwise specified) and follow the weeks of the school term (University of Southampton and private class dates may vary).​​Always be sure to arrive ready for your class 5-10 minutes before the start time to allow yourself time to arrive and settle, so that the class can start promptly. Classes run in half-term blocks for five, six or seven weeks at a time (depending on dates of the school terms) then take a break for the school holidays. Hampshire School terms and holiday information can be found on the Venues and Dates page

The Movers and Soothers sessions on Facebook Live are usually 30 minutes each, with a new one added each Monday morning (during term times). The sessions stay on Facebook, meaning this library of short classes continues to grow.

Workshops and longer sessions vary from just over an hour to all day or weekend. See the Workshops page for more information.

Do I need to come every week?

Like many things, the more regularly you practice yoga, the more transformational the effects will be. There are options for you to attend a regular class every week, mix and match venues and times each week, practice online at home or just join in occasionally when you can. Online classes support the live sessions to encourage you to develop a home practice. All sessions need to be pre-booked and a booking confirmation will be sent to you via the email address that you use when booking. 

I understand that some people’s lives mean that they are not able to commit to attending yoga at the same time every single week (I’ve been there in the past myself and I have felt that this has excluded me from signing up to some yoga classes). Therefore, you have the choice of booking a Half Term Block of classes or purchase a Class Pass for several "class credits" to spend on any classes over a number of weeks, signing up for classes as you go if you prefer.

What happens if I cannot attend a session that I have booked? Can I cancel?

If you can't make your usual class (or whichever session you have booked) you are able to use the "transfer your ticket" option on your Booking Confirmation email to exchange your ticket for:

  • a different class the same week (subject to availability)

  • a different class another week (subject to availability)

  • the live Online class that week

Changes can usually be made up to 24 hours in advance of the class start time. Or you can leave your booking as it is and watch a recording of the class at the weekend or later (a video replay of the online lesson is sent out at the end of each week to everyone who has booked into a regular class that week).

Restorative Yoga sessions, workshops, private classes and longer courses will all have details of the cancellation policy when booking.

What if my chosen session is fully booked?

In the case of a face to face class being full, it is always worth emailing and/or texting Jo to let her know you are interested and double checking the booking system again a few hours before a class (as circumstances sometimes change last minute).

How do I use your booking system?

Tickets for classes are booked online using the 'Bookwhen' website.  They have a useful support page for bookers: https://helpforbookers.helpsite.com/ If you are still stuck then email Jo with your query.


What should I wear?

Yoga is usually practiced in bare feet. Wear something you are comfortable moving about in; e.g. leggings, jogging bottoms, yoga pants or shorts. I prefer loose fitting rather than tight clothing and recommend you wear natural fibres where possible.

What do I need to bring?

Unless otherwise instructed, you will need your own yoga mat and any props that you may like to use (perhaps yoga blocks and a blanket for your knees or for relaxation). There are some ideas of where to purchase props on the Resources page and Jo is always happy to discuss equipment with you. It is not currently possible to borrow equipment.​​​ You may wish to bring some water, but we do not usually get too hot or sweaty.

What about COVID?

The latest government advice and industry best practice is always followed. Students will be informed by email of any changes which will affect their class as soon as possible. Please note and respect any guidelines and safety measures currently applicable in venues (see the COVID Secure Class Guidelines leaflet). Students are responsible for their own health and wellbeing and agree not to hold Jo or Ananda Yoga responsible for the transmission of any communicable illness.

Can anyone practice yoga?

My sincere belief is that yes, everyone can practice yoga, but not every class is for every "body"! There are many different styles of yoga, so take your time and try a class with a teacher who you feel you can relate to. I have a wide network of yoga teacher friends and am always happy to recommend other classes if you are looking for something different.

Policies, Terms & Conditions

Payments, Changes to Classes, Transfers and Cancellations


When you sign up for classes, courses or other sessions, your place is not confirmed until full payment has been received. You can contact Jo about making alternative or extraordinary payments for classes.


Things happen, plans change. If you are not able to attend a class that you have booked onto, it may still be possible to attend an alternative class instead.

Following your booking, a confirmation email will be sent to you with the details about how to join the class and any relevant cancellation information.

Weekly class bookings can usually be changed up to 24 hours ahead of the start time of each session*. You can make these changes yourself from the confirmation email. You can cancel a Class Pass date (it will be credited back onto your Pass) or transfer a ticket to any of the classes listed that are of equal or lesser value (tickets can be transferred no more than twice). *Terms may vary for special events.

Single tickets can be transferred to a future date that is within 8 weeks of the original class date booked.

"5 Class Pass" tickets need to be applied to classes within 8 calendar weeks of the first class booked with that pass and "10 Class Pass" tickets need to be applied to classes within 15 calendar weeks of the first class booked with that pass (not including weeks during the summer break). 

In the case of your chosen session being fully booked, you can request to go on a waiting list (as circumstances sometimes change last minute).

If you are unable to transfer your ticket to a different class yourself (or have any other issues with the online booking system), please send an email in good time and we will see what can be done. 

Refund Policy

The class booking system is designed to be as flexible as possible to suit people's lifestyles.

Refunds will only be given in exceptional cases and will be subject to an administration fee of £1 or 10% of the ticket price for regular classes (whichever is greater).

Individual sessions, courses, workshops and other special events will give details of the refund policy as it may vary from the above.

Should Jo have to change the time or cancel a class that you have already paid for, a choice of a transfer, credit or full refund will be offered.

Please note these are challenging times and face to face classes may need to switch to online yoga should the COVID-19 situation change. If this becomes necessary, students will be informed by email as soon as possible and transfers or refunds offered. Thank you for your support and understanding through this difficult period.

Health & Fitness Disclaimer

Students are welcome to ask the teacher for advice about modifications for health issues and adjust their yoga practice accordingly. However, any information, instruction or advice obtained from a yoga teacher should NOT be used as a substitute for advice or treatment given by a doctor or other health professional. Students are responsible for their own health and wellbeing during every class and later when practising anything they have been taught and agree not to hold Jo or Ananda Yoga responsible for any injuries or transmission of any communicable illness. You practice yoga at your own risk.

Privacy Policy

Your details will only be used to send out newsletters and to inform you of any changes regarding yoga classes or similar arrangements. Your details will never be shared with or passed on to any third party without your prior consent.
